
Description: Stuyvesant Town was built as a result of a public-private development partnership orchestrated by city planner Robert Moses. The private developer, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, was given the right to discriminate when selecting tenants. The fight to integrate Stuyvesant Town was a defining moment in the northern Civil Rights movement. This flier depicts 19 families who faced evicition from Stuyvesant Town as a result of their involvement in the fight against segregation.
